Broadband tax is ‘ill-informed’ levy

Dave Breith, CEO, speaking in Computer Reseller News – CRN

The broadband infrastructure in Britain must be upgraded to meet the needs of customers and businesses, but I am not sure about the £6-a-year landline levy.

How will it be policed and how exactly will the government know how many landline customers each operator has? What happens if you do not have a landline or you have a landline but do not use broadband?

The other major question to ask is once the money has been collected, where will it go? Who will ensure the upgrade comes in one budget and on time? The government should listen to industry advice, rather than just announcing an ill-informed tax.
